Málaga to Granada Road Trip via the White Villages (3 Days)

Málaga to Granada is a compact Andalusian classic: dramatic gorges, whitewashed hill villages and the Alhambra — barely 200 km of driving with the Sierra Nevada as a backdrop. Take the scenic inland roads rather than the motorway and give yourself three unhurried days.

Day 1 — Málaga to Ronda (100 km)

Pick up the car in Málaga and drive on the right. Skip the fast A-45/A-92 and take the scenic A-366/A-397 up into the hills to Ronda. Stop to walk the Puente Nuevo bridge over the El Tajo gorge — the town’s unforgettable centrepiece. The old centre has restricted low-emission zones, so leave the car in a garage and explore on foot. Sleep in Ronda.

Day 2 — Ronda to Antequera via the white villages (70 km)

Wind through the pueblos blancos — villages like Grazalema, Zahara or Setenil de las Bodegas make ideal short stops. Aim for Antequera and the surreal limestone rock formations of El Torcal; go early, as the inland summer heat is fierce by midday. Book your Alhambra tickets now if you haven’t — they sell out weeks ahead.

Day 3 — Antequera to Granada (30 km) and the Alhambra

A short final leg into Granada. The historic centre has restricted-access zones, so park in a garage near the centre. Spend the afternoon at the Alhambra (tickets must be booked well in advance), then wander the Albaicín for sunset views across to the Sierra Nevada. Drop the car back in Granada.
