The E10 threads the Lofoten islands of Arctic Norway across a chain of bridges and causeways, linking razor-edge peaks, white-sand beaches and red fishermen’s cabins (rorbuer). You drive on the right. Distances are short, so this is a slow, scenic drive to savour over a few days — and in summer the midnight sun never sets. Roads can be narrow, so use the laybys for photos.

Day 1 — Svolvær to Henningsvær (25 km)

Base yourself in Svolvær, then detour out to the island village of Henningsvær, famous for its clifftop football pitch and galleries.

Day 2 — Henningsvær to Nusfjord (55 km)

Drive west on the E10, stopping at the turquoise Haukland and Uttakleiv beaches, then the preserved fishing village of Nusfjord.

Day 3 — Nusfjord to Reine (40 km)

The most photographed stretch in Norway — Hamnøy and Reine framed by sheer peaks. For the classic view, hike the steep steps up Reinebringen (only in good weather).

Day 4 — Reine to Å (10 km)

Finish at the road’s end in tiny Å, a living fishing-village museum. Return the car in Leknes or Svolvær, or fly out of Leknes airport.

Costs

Use the cost calculator to price fuel and nights for your exact dates. Norway is expensive for food and fuel, so a self-catering rorbu cabin saves the most. Lofoten beds book up far ahead in summer — reserve early.

🚦 Know before you go

  • Bridges & tunnels. The E10 across Lofoten is free, linking Svolvær to Reine by toll-free bridges and tunnels.

  • Ferries. The drive itself needs no ferry, but reaching Lofoten from the mainland at Bodø uses the Bodø–Moskenes car ferry, approx NOK 605 (~€52) per car, bookable online.

  • Good to know. Book the Bodø–Moskenes ferry months in advance for summer travel and arrive early, as vehicle deck space is limited and sells out.
