Copenhagen to Skagen Road Trip (3 Days)

Copenhagen to Skagen runs the length of Denmark, from the capital to the windswept tip where two seas collide. It is flat, calm, easy driving on the right — the only real drama is the strong coastal wind and the famous northern light that once drew a colony of painters.

Day 1 — Copenhagen to Odense (170 km)

Pick up the car and head west across Zealand on the E20. The big moment is the Great Belt Bridge (Storebæltsbroen), an 18 km crossing to Funen — budget a toll of around DKK 250, paid at the booths or electronically. Spend the afternoon in Odense, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, and sleep there.

Day 2 — Odense to Aarhus (170 km)

Cross to the Jutland mainland and drive north to Aarhus, Denmark’s second city. Visit ARoS, whose rooftop “Your Rainbow Panorama” walkway frames the city in every colour, then wander Den Gamle By, an open-air museum of relocated historic houses. Stay the night in Aarhus.

Day 3 — Aarhus to Skagen (150 km)

The final push north up Jutland. Stop at the Råbjerg Mile, a vast migrating sand dune slowly marching across the peninsula, then continue to Skagen. Walk out to Grenen, the very tip, where the Skagerrak and Kattegat seas visibly meet in a line of clashing waves. Dress warm — the wind here is relentless. Drop the car in Skagen.
